PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Following the recommendation by UNEP, the Nigeria government and her stakeholders have decided to undertake the remediation of contaminated sites in Ogoni land, Nigeria. Awa Engineering Company Nigeria is one of the Environmental Companies selected to carryout out the remediation works under the supervision of HYPREP. The Site NEW ELELENWA MANIFOLD in Akpajo Community is located at the northern flank of Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria with GPS reference coordinates – Eastings: 290317; Northings: 536231 (WGS 84, Zone 32N, UTM). The area selected for remediation in this site is 5,547.00sq.m, with a flat surface topography. The remedial action objective is to restore the site to a condition fit for purpose and land use as is reasonably practicable. The remedy shall seek to remove or mitigate any significant human or environmental risks from the Chemicals of Concern (CoC) identified stated in the site assessment report above. The remediation standard is to reduce the Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH) content to Environmental Guidelines and Standards in Petroleum Industry in Nigeria (EGASPIN) target level of 50mg/kg in soil. The scope of the remediation works apart from other comprises of; Site Reconnaissance visit, mapping and layout, Training and induction of personnel/Lunch, Biocell Construction, Excavation and earthworks/transportation to ex-situ bio-cell, Tilling & Aeration, Free-phase recovery of hydrocarbon if any, Aeration of impacted groundwater using compression when necessary, Bio-cell process and bioremediation, Treatment of impacted soils using NOSDRA approved nutrient-PRP, Nutrient application of soils using PRP, tilling and homogenization in cycles, Backfilling of excavation using treated soils, Landscaping with topsoil and grassing/turf materials for good drainage/leveling.
